HIT THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL (v.)
– to enter the political path or to become a candidate for a political position
Example: My father tried to hit the campaign trail last election.
Additional Definition: To ‘hit the campaign trail’ basically means to ‘enter politics or to run for office. It is similar when you say ‘hit the beach’ which means ‘go to the beach’.
