CONCUSSION (n.)
– injury to a soft part of the body, usually the brain, caused by a serious blow with the fist or a weapon
Example: The head concussion made him lose his consciousness.


Additional Info: Concussion literally means “to shake violently.” It is a term commonly used in sports that involve intense physical contact like boxing, rugby and hockey. A person who has a concussion may feel dizzy and nauseous, have difficulty balancing himself, and may be confused for an indefinite period of time.

LEAGUE (n.)
- a group of people bound by an agreement and a common goal
Example: The league approved decision for the benefit of everyone.


Additional Definition: In sports, league refers to a group of athletic teams that makes sure the rules of the sport are fair for everyone. They also enforce the rules whenever it is violated. They have the last decision on an issue involving their specific sport.

HIT (n.)
– in hockey, to stop another player by using one’s body
Example: The player hit his opponent violently.


Additional Info: A hit, also called check, is not considered a violation. A player can use his body or his stick when trying to stop his opponent. When a player hits an opponent to the board of the ice rink, it is considered a violation.

DRASTIC (adj.)
– very severe and extreme
Example: The changes in the company rules are too drastic.
